The Botany of Dr. Edward Bach's Twelve Healers

In May, 1930, Dr Edward Bach closed his successful medical research practice in London and set off for Wales.  Here he hoped to find plant-based treatments to address twelve universal states of mind that he believed were the great lessons of life – one of which each of us would undergo during our existence.  He finally decided on twelve flowers and used them to make the first modern essences he called The Twelve Healers. This book describes where and when Bach found the flowers and how he may have decided on their therapeutic qualities. 

We know that, at this stage, Bach was very influenced by the doctrine of signatures – a broad concept asserting that features of plants resemble, in some way, the human conditions they can treat. The activity will bring you closer to each species and help you connect with the subtleties of its nature.  Additionally, since essences are used to promote emotional well-being, learning about a flower’s botany alongside its essence will provide opportunity to recognise your own personal emotional states and, thus, lead to improved self-awareness.
