This well was first recorded in 1471. It is situated at the base of Harpers Hill, now a green lane, which marks the ancient route from Totnes to Plymouth. Nearby is a busy main road, but it remains a peaceful spot. The icy, bubbling water flows joyfully out of the ground and into a stone trough. Here travellers, even today, can refresh themselves and partake of its curative properties. The spring then vanishes underground and originally emerged and circled the base of Totnes’s famous castle - proof that from little trickles, great protective moats can grow! For those who have embarked on long endeavours and now feel flagging and depleted, Harper’s Well essence will refresh your energy, re-spark your enthusiasm and carry you both to and beyond the finishing post.
